Lunch Menu – Decembre 13th

13 de December de 2023

This week, too, we would like to share some pictures of the week’s menu. On Decembre the 13th, students enjoyed a theme-based menu. This time around, students travelled to England. They were able to delight themselves with reach red lentil and tomato soup, crispy fish and chips, and some sweet but tangy lemon Victoria Sponge cake-

We would like to tell you a little bit about this typical English meal:

The red lentils are skinless legumes. These are similar in size as the Catalan ‘perdina’ lentil, and their main feature is their orange colour that brings a bright tough to any recipe. Also, red lentils are a very interesting and easy to add into daily cooking routines.

Fish and chips is the staple dish of English cuisine. Has its name indicates, the dish consists on fried fish and chips, usually served with a side of mayo, peas, salt and vinegar or the less traditional ketchup.

Did you know? The fish and chips recipe has barely changed in the last 160 years. It is said that the Jewish migrants were the ones to introduce the dish to Londoners, and ever since it has stuck around. The first ever Fish and Chips restaurant was Joseph Malin’s. During WWII, the dish was made popular due to it being a cheaper food option. Slowly but surely, fish and chips became part of what is known as ‘fast food’ as it was being sold in the streets, commonly known as ‘chippys’.

Finally, Victoria Sponge cake is the royal English dessert. It is soft, spongy, and light. At home, you can fill it with different spreads or eat it as is. Also, you can have it as dessert or as a delightful snack.
