This year, the León XIII school participates again in the MEP. The representatives are Iria, Pepa, Arena and Mai from 1st year of high school.
The Model European Parliament is a debate format in which 16 and 17 year old students debate according to the formulas used in the European Parliament. This year, the first session will take place on January 25, 26 and 17. Nearly 60 students from thirteen schools in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands will have the opportunity to become European parliamentarians for a few days and debate extremely current parliamentary agenda issues such as the limits of freedom of expression or EU agreements with neighboring countries. regarding migration.
4 students from our school: Arena, Iria, Pepa and Mai are our representatives. Arena will head the arts and culture commission, Iria will head the civil rights commission, Mai will head the foreign policy commission and Pepa will head the energy commission. We will closely follow your experience.
How does the MEP work?
The European Parliament model is an educational program whose objective is to foster in young people an awareness of European citizenship and a culture of constructive parliamentary debate. Thanks to this project, students have the opportunity to research different current European topics, give their opinion, present proposals and become parliamentarians for a few days. Students develop and demonstrate their understanding of the functioning of the EU institutions, the topics proposed for debate and their skills in presenting and defending their points of view.
The most outstanding students will be selected to participate in the State Session of the European Parliament Model. But we won’t know that for a few days! We will keep you informed!
The León XIII School in the MEP
We have been participating in the MEP for almost 5 years and there are many joys that our students have given us. The last one was this last year. Carla Lisart qualified in each session until she was the 3rd finalist from Spain, thus qualifying for the MEP International Session that was held from October 12 to 19 in Athens.
The adventure does not end here because Carla will have a very important role in this year’s MEP. We will keep you informed!
